"I picked this combo to get the chance to do something more than just Island Peak. I can really recommend the combination because Island Peak is a bit easier and was a good preparation to Lobuche which is more exposed and different climbers there.

I have only positive things to say both about the Nepalese and the Swedish part of Adventure Lovers. Everything worked just perfect..."/Magnus Bredin

Cho Oyu Climbing expedition, 8201 meters

Cho Oyu is the sixth highest mountain in the world and is 8201 meters high. This climbing expedition is a perfect mountain for climbers ready to climb above 8000 meters. There is also a lot of climbers preparing for Mount Everest, climbing Cho Oyu first. So if you have the dream to climb Mount Everest, Cho Oyu is a great mountain to try your strength on before you taking on the highest one in the world.

We are climbing the standard route from 1954 from Tibet, which is the North West route. Cho Oyu is what we call a straight forward mountain technically speaking. There is a short distance between camp 1 and camp 2 which is almost vertical ice climbing. It is a serac which we will climb over at 6600 meters.

We believe that Cho Oyo is an excellent choice for those of you want to climb a 8000 meter mountain. We want to stress though that people talking about that it is an ’easy’ mountain should not be taking serious. Every mountain above 8000 meters is a very serious climbing expedition.

We will ask for documented references that you have previous experience at at least 7000 meters to be taken on to this expedition. You should have complete control on climbing on fixed ropes with a jumar (ascender), you should be able to rappel a rope with your back pack on. Your crampon technic must be of high quality. Your physical and mental health must be very strong because this expedition care for a high focus from start and all the way back down to Base camp

We are using Walkie-Talkie’s on the mountain and we will give one to each team member. This will provide full communication with all the climbers above Base camp.

We are sleeping with supplementary oxygen at 7400 meters and will use it all the way to the summit..
There are some teams trying to climb Cho Oyu without supplementary oxygen and some has done it brilliant. A lot of climbers have stretched over their limits though and has failed their summit bid because of this. You will be colder without csupplementary oxygen. At Adventure Lovers, we believe that the safest way to try to reach the top of Cho Oyu is to use supplementary oxygen from 7400 meters.

We will use three camps above Base camp.
Camp 1 – 6400 meters
Camp 2 – 7000 meters
Camp 3 – 7400 meters

Dates 2012:

August 27 - October 5, 40 days.
